![]() In this study, I used the Himalayan altitudinal gradient, one the steepest and longest altitudinal gradients, to understand how environmental factors interact with plant functional traits and ultimately define the patterns of plant species distributions along the altitudinal gradient. Many environmental factors, such as temperature co-vary along the altitudinal gradient, and it provides therefore, an excellent natural laboratory to evaluate potential effects of environmental factors and climate change on plant species distribution. How environmental factors influence plant species distribution, diversity and composition is one of the central question in ecology and conservation biology.
